MEET EVAN BAXTER
Evan Baxter is a versatile trumpeter, educator, and arts leader based in central Pennsylvania. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education at The Pennsylvania State University, where he studies trumpet performance while developing a strong foundation in pedagogy, leadership, and ensemble performance. With a growing private teaching studio and extensive ensemble experience, Evan is committed to building musical excellence through performance and education.
Known for his strong leadership and adaptability, Evan has performed with many of Penn State’s premier ensembles, including the Penn State Symphonic Wind Ensemble, where he has served as Principal Trumpet, and the Centre Dimensions Big Band, where he held the Lead Trumpet chair. His diverse performance background also includes appearances with the Penn State President’s Concert Brass Ensemble, Trumpet Choir, Blue Band, and theatrical productions such as Sweeney Todd and How to Succeed in Business with the Penn State School of Theatre.
Beyond the university stage, Evan has worked professionally as a contracted performer through RWS Global at Hersheypark, performing with a strolling brass band during the summer of 2025. His performance career has also taken him internationally through his time with the State College Area High School Jazz Band, including appearances at Jazz à Vienne and Jazz à Juan in France. These experiences have shaped his musicianship and broadened his perspective as both a performer and educator.
In addition to performance, Evan maintains an active private teaching studio, working with middle and high school trumpet students across central Pennsylvania. His teaching philosophy centers on meeting students where they are, building strong fundamentals, and helping each player discover confidence and passion through music. He has also served as a preschool music teacher and guest practitioner, expanding his teaching across multiple age groups and learning environments.
Evan’s leadership extends deeply into music advocacy and student development. He currently serves as President of the Penn State NAfME Club and the Penn State Trumpet Guild, while also holding multiple leadership roles within the Penn State Blue Band, including Trumpet Guide, Music Section Leader, and Librarian. Through these roles, he has led sectionals, organized rehearsals, mentored younger musicians, and helped preserve ensemble traditions and resources.
A dedicated advocate for music education, Evan’s work has been recognized through honors including the Louis Armstrong Award, Ned C. and Janette M. Deihl Blue Band Scholarship, the Barasch Family Scholarship, the President Walker Award, and repeated Dean’s List recognition. Whether on stage, in the classroom, or in rehearsal, Evan is driven by a passion for music, leadership, and helping others grow through meaningful musical experiences.
